An innovative shopping and leisure centre, The Léon Plaza, has opened in the new area Eras de Renueva, one of the fastest-growing residential areas in the Leon capital. Developed by the Martinsa-Grupo Norte, the architecture and design are the work of L35 Arquitectos.
At the vanguard of the best current shopping centres, the complex, which includes 40.000 m2 on two levels and part of a third, includes an underground parking area.
León Plaza is placed along a poplar boulevard recalling an interior walkway connecting both ends of the centre. The concept is both a commercial area as well as a pedestrian urban landscape, linking the Avenue Reyes Leoneses and the river. This inner street contains a sculptural metal tree-lined pathway which meanders through the mall, with daylight flooding in through an enormous skylight. The mall was conceived as an interior boulevard, echoing the river edge, and is proposed as a new space of urban connectivity between the river and the new central area around the Museum.
It is worth mentioning the attractive surroundings of the centre with the presence of some of the most emblematic buildings in the city, like Hostal San Marcos, the Auditorium and the MUSAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of the Junta de Castilla y León)
