This hospital, which opened in 1985, is sized according to the specific needs of the Val d’Arán. It offers all the services and facilities of a standard hundred bed hospital. In addition, it provides an outpatient service for the entire valley.
The design of the centre sought to respond to the location and the program. It did so by simultaneously using traditional materials and new technologies, a choice that resulted in an economy of formal elements. The roof profile defines the large porch which protects the adjoining waiting room from intense sunlight and establishes a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, while offering clear views of the wide valley beyond. Unlike traditional architecture, the structure of the building makes it permeable to the landscape and creates large interfaces like the lateral glass façade.
